Why are we still cutting out carbs?

Carbohydrates include sugar, starch and dietary fibre. The government guidelines suggests 50% of our daily calories should come from carbs.

Initially if you cut out carbs you will see a big drop in weight, this is because we are losing our 'water weight' For every 1g of carbs we store, we store 3g of water so it makes sense that when we stop eating and storing carbs we will also lose the water we have been storing.

Although carbs are not essential for life, cutting flood groups out of our diet is not sustainable and also isn't optimal.

Here are my top reasons to keep the carbs:

Fuel For Activity

Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the body. The body's most efficient way of producing energy is through the glycolysis or carbs. This is especially important in those performing high intensity activity.

Keeps You Full

The consumption of carbohydrates increases the volume of food in the intestine and delays gastric emptying to help keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Maintains Health

dietary fibres, such as oats.fruit, vegetables and wholegrains, are correlated with lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease. this may be due to reduced cholesterol absorption the gut. Carbohydrates are also important in maintaining digestive health.

Protein Sparing Effect

It is suggested that when exercise is performed with low carb intake, protein breakdown is increase which ma lead to the attenuation of lean muscle.
